CMAS: New Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) Requirements

The State of California seeks to realize the potential benefits of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) through the development and deployment of GenAI tools, while balancing the risks of these new technologies.

GenAI is defined as the class of AI models that emulate the structure and characteristics of input data in order to generate derived synthetic content. This can include images, videos, audio, text, and other digital content.

Upon request by an ordering agency, Contractors must complete the GenAI Disclosure & Fact Sheet (STD 1000) to identify if they are using, offering, or makes available, any GenAI technology, including GenAI from third parties or subcontractors. If Contractor identifies Gen AI in their solution, a copy of the   STD 1000 must be submitted to the DGS Contract Administrator.

Upon receipt of a Contractor’s GenAI Disclosure & Factsheet, the State reserves the right to incorporate GenAI Special Provisions into the current contract/agreement.
