The Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) and Defense Pricing and Contracting (DPC) have decided to sunset the MarketPlace offerings in FedMall due to limited sales and the availability of other government efforts, such as the General Servicing Agency’s (GSA) Commercial Platform Initiative to provide open competition for commercial items. The decision to sunset MarketPlace was made after a thorough analysis of sales, items, and supplier metrics. The future of the FedMall MarketPlace was also briefed at the August 2023 Procurement Business Operations Requirements Group (PBORG) to allow input and questions from the military services and other federal agencies using FedMall.
While the MarketPlace catalogs comprise over 60% of items for sale on FedMall, only .008% of the items were actually sold in the previous 5 years. Furthermore, total MarketPlace sales comprised just over 2% of the FedMall’s annual revenue. Moreover, the requirement for Fed Mall to carry so many items significantly impacts catalog loading times, server space, performance, and search results without a reasonable return on investment.
The FedMall Marketplace will continue to operate through the end of FY24, and vendor catalogs will be removed as of October 1, 2024.
