The General Services Administration (GSA) is completing the transition of the Federal Procurement Data System (FPDS) contract award data search functionality to SAM.gov as part of its ongoing systems modernization effort.
Beginning February 24, 2026, the FPDS.gov public website, login, and search tools, including ezSearch, will be decommissioned. After this date, SAM.gov will serve as the single authoritative source for searching federal contract award data.
What is changing?
GSA has been migrating FPDS functionality to SAM.gov since 2020, with ezSearch capabilities moved in July 2025. Following the February 2026 transition:
- FPDS.gov search tools will no longer be available
- SAM.gov will be the only authoritative location to search contract award data
- Remaining FPDS data feeds will sunset later in FY 2026
- The FPDS ATOM feed will be retired this summer and replaced by the SAM.gov Contract Awards API
Accessing contract award data
Users can search contract awards through the Contracting Search feature on SAM.gov.
- A SAM.gov account (via Login.gov) is required to access full functionality
- Public users without a SAM.gov account may continue to view procurement data through USASpending.gov
- SAM.gov is now the authoritative source for federal procurement data used for policy and trend analysis
Search results include publicly available information on unclassified contract actions exceeding the micro-purchase threshold, as well as modifications that change previously reported data, regardless of dollar value.
Improvements to search functionality
GSA has enhanced the SAM.gov search experience with several improvements, including:
- Integrated navigation between contract opportunities, awards, and subaward reporting
- Priority search filters aligned with the SAM.gov user experience
- Drop-down “Picker” filter options
- More intuitive filters and partial search capability
API transition and training resources
The FPDS ATOM feed is being replaced by the SAM.gov Contract Awards API, available at open.gsa.gov. The ATOM feed will be retired later this summer.
GSA plans to release additional training resources for contract award search and the new API in the coming months. Updates will be available on GSA Interact and at sam.gov/fpds.
Organizations that utilize FPDS data should be aware of the transition timeline and the shift to SAM.gov as the authoritative source for contract award data.
